Me & Skipper
Hi my name’s Dave and I setup outadwords.com.
First thanks for visiting the site, I hope the site fulfills its purpose of saving you money and time. I add new content most days, please bookmark us and come back – better still use facebook or Twitter to track or signup for the newsletter.
On the site you will see lots of ads, some are placed to earn me money to feed Skipper, others are to show examples of the networks we suggest as ideas to use.
So let me tell why I created the site in the first place. Way back, when phones were bricks and wireless meant the radio (and everyone kept leeches in the medicine cupboard), I started my first online business. Things were slow to begin with, but once I started marketing things got better and I was soon earning money from the site leaving my past employment behind. Unfortunately, before profits rose to a level to sustain me, two kids, the house and the dog my little business started to plateau. It was about this time that Google emerged offering introductory advertising deals. I started my first Google ad campaign using a coupon and traffic started to rise again.
Back then Google adwords was easy, you didn’t need to “work the system” to get results; the numbers using it provided tough competition, but not enough to out-price smaller sites. But it’s easy to get caught in the headlights, chasing keywords thinking they are the only ones that bring traffic, or that Google adwords is the only solution to low traffic. I Soon found that I was priced out of my sector and I was spending much more than I ever intended and more then was sustainable.
So years later from that experience I thought of this type of site. It’s not an anti-adwords site, because Google adwords does deliver traffic but there are more cost-effective ways for smaller or fledgling sites to bring in business. The site aims to give you the information to make an informed choice, so you can get the best return from your marketing budget.
Now that Google is so big, competition for even vague words can make it hard to find a comfortable campaign level. Many people avoid worrying about individual word cost by falling into the trap of setting a monthly budget. But leaving it to Google is like handing your credit card to a stranger – you can’t trust it’s being spent to your best advantage.
It’s been about some years since my first
adwords campaign, and it’s been reported that these days Google control 44% of all online advertising. Because of their size some, less scrupulous, businesses target them for juicy pickings. Unfortunately for you, that juice is the money you pump into
adwords. The other side of the
adwords coin is Google’s Adsense system, where site owners place Google ads on their pages and earn per click. The thing is, not all clicks on those ads are human, and not all pages are honest ones like yours and mine. So not all of the clicks you pay for through
adwords will be genuine interest in your site.
Google says they try to spot these systems and, when they do, they even refund for invalid clicks – But like any business, it’s not in their interest to find ways to refund you, so you can’t necessarily trust they’re being vigilant. So if you sign up for the “monthly budget” option, they have your credit card, that credit card pays for clicks, and the more clicks, the more money google make. It doesn’t profit Google to ensure all those clicks are genuine customers for you, so it’s down to you to determine whether the
adwords model can get you the best value for your money. No matter how experienced you are with online marketing,
adwords is an expensive learning process, so if you own a smaller site or are starting up a new business, why not learn it a cheaper way, even a free way. We give you those networks, it’s as simple as that.
Reminder – Around the site you will notice adverts, sure I hope these bring in some money for me, I’m not daft and this is no charity and I wouldn’t be much of a businessman man if I didn’t would I. But placing the ads is also about showing you what your placement might look like on the networks we feature. We’ll improve of this idea as we become more well known to the ad networks. On that subject we hope to partner with people to bring discounts and trials for you later. We also have a forum planned so if you think that’s a good idea let us know as it will only happen if we feel people will use it. I hate nothing more then a dead forum.
If traffic is not so much a problem to year site you may also be looking to earn some income from your website. Here too we include sites that might return better figures then Google Adsense.
Thank you for creating this site, and I will absolutey will go over it with a fine tooth comb! So much info strung out everwhere gives me a headache, but looking forward to diging down on your suggestions.
Thanks
Tamara
